Happy Canada Day!

Thanks to the Vancouver Jazz Festival and Granville Island for making my Canada Day great!

Spent some time hangin’ with my brother and his family.

– disappearing ink really disappears
– striking two marbles together makes cap gun sound [400 times]
– skipping rocks is hard at Granville Island [few flat stones]
– people stood around and just listened to dhol drumming.

The first time I saw dhol music live was at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival by The Dhol Foundation

They did not let us goras even think about sitting on our hands.

– the Carnival Band [myspace] should always lead the Canada Day Parade or any other parade when they play their samba rythms.

– “have some Canada Day birthday cake. 140 years old. No wait, Canada is 140 years old and the cake was made today.” Everyone who wanted a piece of cake got one. The cake was five feet long. The pieces were one inch square. My nephew managed to get three and was on a sugar high the rest of the afternoon.

Laura Crema did a great set and sang Oh Canada too. She sang a line or two in French and no one booed. In the early ’90s, I worked with Laura. Her brother worked there too.

– some dogs have dreadlocks
Dread Dog

– gypsy swing is beautiful
– Van Django is fantastic

– I’m listening to their music right now.
